Ankola is  Located 37kms south of Karwar, is a small town with 15th century ruined walls of king Sarpamalika's fort and the ancient Shri Venketaraman Temple. Near the temple there are two giant wooden chariots carved with scenes from the 'Ramayana'.


Belekeri Beach : Situated 8 kms away from Ankola is an old port of Belekin with the long stretches of unexplored beaches. Situated at the bay of the river Belekin. The place has two temples of   Jenubeera and Ishwara and also an old inscription dating back to the 15th century. Belekeri Port was a good port during the time of British, and managenese ore was being exported from here. The beautiful beach here attracts many tourists.

Sri Aryadurga Temple: This temple in Ankola is established by a Sanyasi about 300 years ago and stapana. The Sanyasi who installed the idol had his samadhi in front of this temple.     

                                                                                 

Sri Laxminarayan Mahamaya Temple :The GSB Brahmins who fled from Goa about 1510 AD with their family deities (Kuladevatha idols) came here and settled. The idol of gold in this temple is taken out for worship once in ten-fifteen years. The punarprathistapana of the temple took place in 1975.

Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple : 21 kms from Ankola, this coastal town has, among other things, an ancient temple with the Atmalinga.  Gokarna is also a famous centre for Sanskrit learning.  The Om Beach and the Kuttle Beach are nearby.Gokarna carries a lot of significance to Hindus, Shiva's in particular. It is famous for the ‘Atmalinga’ in the ancient Mahabaleshwara Temple. This is second only to Vishwanatha Temple at Varnasi in North

YANA CAVES: Located amongst the evergreen forest of the Sahyadri Mountains, Yana Caves are 58 kms for Ankola, a small coastal town and 40-km for Sirsi, a commercial centre. One can experience wilder ness in all its holiness and loneliness in this limestone rock dome paradise. Yana is known for its unique rock formations and is a haven for rock climbers.
One has to walk several miles on the partially paved road from the highway. The area is known for its majestic mountains, a variety of rock formations, tricking waterfalls and the holy temple


 How to Reach : Ankola is well connected by Konkan Railway and NH 17 but takes a little time to reach. If you are coming by the newly laid Konkan railway route, get off at  Ankola.  Konkan railway connects Ankola with Mangalore and Goa.There are limited KSRTC and private  buses to Bangalore, Mysore, Hampi, Hubli, Mangalore and Kumta
